I get a lot of mail from the kids each year--too many letters to post.  But below are a select few that I thought folks might enjoy reading.  -Jeff

-------------------

Jeff - Thank you so much for visiting our school! You made a big change in all of our lives.  We will remember this experience for a long time.  I sure hope you will come back next year!  You taught us how to use our resources to make music!  You were a lot of fun to be around, and you were very funny! Junk 2 Funk is awesome! Just the way normal things like pots and pans could come all together to make music! Its amazing!  We will all miss you, Jeff.   We hope to see you again, and talk to you again.

-Ariel M.

Dear Jeff, Thank you for coming to Kimball/Walker School to teach us how to make music out of junk.  I think what you are doing will make some change in all of us so we don't waste things so much.

-Your friend, Katia

Hi Jeff:  this is Henry from Central school writing to say, “That was AWESOME – and you were great to work with all week!!!!!!”

-Henry

Dear Jeff, Usually, at my old school, we would have really boring people come in and teach about why the woodchuck chucks.  Yet this year was so fun to learn about Junk 2 Funk and get to play the instruments...that was awesome!

-Chapin

Dear Jeff, Thank you VERY much for coming to Kimball School!  Junk 2 Funk is so awesome!  The way you make instruments is soooo cool.  I hate throwing out stuff because I know it usually goes to a landfill which I think is horrible...Thank you for helping us learn a new way to save the planet and preserve it.

-Glynnis

Dear Jeff, Thank you so much for coming to our school.  You taught me a total new look on making music.  I also thought it was fun how you let the kids make the music and choose the beat.  I couldn't wait for the time of week when we got to go to Junk 2 Funk.  Thanks again!

-Skye

It was very fun when we went on stage.  It told me that I had a gift.  It opened my heart.  It felt like I discovered a gift of my own.

-Elise

Thank you for letting the 2nd grade go on stage and perform.  I was nervous at first but found my courage somewhere.

-Kenny

Thank you for all the time you had to spend with us.  It was the best thing I ever did...You were very funny too.

-Ashley

If I could say thank you as much as I would like to, the whole paper would be filled with thank yous.  We would love for you to come again and maybe just maybe, I can be like you.

-Jazmine

I miss Junk Jam... That was my first ever percussion gig... :) Now look at me. Percussion ensemble and drumline!

-Jordan

Junk 2 Funk needs to go national with it, it's an awesome program that I certainly enjoyed. It needs to be deployed in all schools.

-Cody

Hi, I am a student from Mrs.Stevens class in Main Dunstable Elementry School . Thanks for coming to my school, everyday i looked forward to coming. I had a lots of fun.

-Matt

Dear Jeff, Thank you for showing us how to make Junk 2 Funk.  My friend and I made instruments from junk around our neighborhood.  You are so cool.  I've never had the best artist in residence teacher in my life.  Thank you so much.  You are the best.

From your friend, Priti

In February, a man named Jeff, from Trashcan Lid Productions, came to my school.  His program is called Junk 2 Funk.  He takes junk and makes it into funky sounding instruments...Jeff came every day for a week.  On Friday each class gave a different performance.  Jeff put funky music on, and we had to walk to our instruments in funky ways.  We performed a version of 'We will Rock You' on junky, funky instruments.  It was like an orchestra.  First the water phone played, then the PVC tubes (played with old flipflops) came in, then the drums, then more and more instruments.  After school, some of us kids helped Jeff bring his instruments back to his trailer.  It was kind of sad when he drove away, because we all had the best week of our lives, for a nice man made it fun.

-Anna

You are a great person and I hope you come back next year.  You have taught me to just be myself and get out there and show them how it is done.  I really thought it was cool how you can play so many junk things and get a really good sound out of all of it!  Merry Christmas & go Recycling!

-Stephani

This is Jenna in 7th grade, from Russell School.  It's kind of weird without you around...The concert was really fun, so were the days that we spent with you.  I know that when I say this I'm speaking for more than me.  You have to come back to visit sometime...I hope you had a good time with us, we tried to make it a time you will never forget.

         -Jenna

Thank you for letting the fourth grade work with you.  It has taught us a lot about what happens to the earth if we don't recycle.  You also taught me to trust and see myself in a different way.

-Storm

We learned to play the instruments so fast.  I wish I could play on the instruments every day with you.

-Nicole

...You also gave me the joy of making music.  And you helped me with my fear of making bad music.

-William

Dear Jeff, this is George from Russell School.  The one who sang the solo at the afternoon concert.  I would like to thank you for giving me the confidence to do the solo.  By the way how are you doing?  You done any concerts lately?  If you did I bet they rocked.  I hope I see you again soon.  What would be awesome is if we had a concert again..

-Your Friend, GW5  P.S.  I am making my own junk instruments.

Thank you very, very much for coming in, teaching us teens at Teen Conference [at UNH] how to play percussion with recycled resources, performing with us, and then dee-jaying our dance...I enjoyed your afternoon session of Junk 2 Funk and wanted to tell you, I really loved it.  I've never before played the colander or the pots and pans and was complemented on it sounding good (or being a desirable noise, come to think of it).  I'd like to thank you so much for helping us realize our talents and what we could do on our own, with help whenever and wherever we needed it.  It was fun and I seriously hope you would consider coming back next year so we can rock Teen Conference 2008.  We'd love to see you again.

-Caleb

I was very excited to be able to use the instruments you had brought for us to use...It definitely was the best show I'll ever be in.  I was very sad when the show was over because I had so much fun.

-Arianna

Thank you for helping our planet by recycling that junk to funk!

-Shania

Greetings Jeff!  My name is Grace Magnusson and I want to thank you, on behalf of the delegates from the 2009 4-H Conference, for being a presenter again.  I took your workshop this past year and in 2008 and both times I had so much fun and I know that everyone else did too!  Junk 2 Funk is such an awesome workshop and I know that everyone would love to have you back next year.  Volunteers are so important in 4-H and we all appreciate your efforts in showing us a new way to look at junk and use our imaginations to make it something wicked too!

-Thanks again, 2010 NH 4-H Teen Council
