The Artist

Jeff at TLP Studios

A performing artist, musician, DJ and educator (M.A. / M.Ed.), Jeff Erwin, AKA Junkmale, is a master teacher who leads participants down a path of self-exploration.  Since 1989, Jeff’s work has enriched the lives of youth and young adults ages 3 to 23 in schools and universities throughout America.  His teaching style encourages students to take healthy risks and make new discoveries about themselves and enables them to feel successful as performing artists and musicians in a short period of time.  In 1998, Jeff founded Trashcan Lid Productions (TLP), an organization that has received numerous grants.  In 1999, Jeff’s young touring cast starred in a nationally-televised commercial for Kitchen, Etc. playing pots, pans and other kitchenware.  Through Jeff’s direction, TLP performers have appeared on New Hampshire Public Television, New England Cable News, the ABC Television Network, NHPR, and have received standing ovations across New England from audiences numbering as many as 2,000 people.  Jeff’s work with youth in a workshop setting blends the disciplines of environmental science, language arts, technology, pop culture and performance art, with a special emphasis on making music with reused and recycled materials.  Residencies, extended workshops and camps culminate with a rhythmic, multi-media extravaganza performed by the students.  U.S. Senator Jean Shaheen said of Jeff’s work, “I thoroughly enjoyed both watching the performance and having the opportunity to join the kids dancing [on stage]. I love the creativity, energy and sound of TLP.  It’s easy to see why young people enjoy participating.”  Jeff is a juried member of The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts’ arts roster.  To read more about Jeff and to view pricing for residencies, workshops and more, click here.
